The center wing spar of an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This souped up Corsair was built by Goodyear at their Akron factory, and was fitted with a four-row, 28-cylinder P&W R4360 radial offering 3,000 hp and a top speed of 431 mph. When the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! proved to have superior performance using the same engine as the original F4U, the Super Corsair was canceled after only 10 were built. But what a beautiful bit of engineering.

Those spar chords were probably fun to make.

By that you mean the vertical bits?
I never really thought about how it looked inside, just that the inverted gull wings came straight out. The arch is really quite graceful, and no doubt quite strong.

The curved horizontal bits. Upper and lower edges. They are likely formed T chords and had to be bent to contour and heat treated.

431 mph from piston power. Wow. There must have been some very serious English put on that thing by that 14-foot-diameter propeller with all that horsepower.
